Thank you for reading another issue of the Jeopardy Answer & Question Recap, or JAQR [“jacker”] for short. This recap includes at least one clue from each Jeopardy! episode between Monday 6/24 and Friday 6/28. The recap includes Daily Doubles, Final Jeopardy clues, and Triple Stumpers. The first half of the recap includes just the clues so you can quiz yourself if you want. The second half gives you some (hopefully) interesting information about the clues and/or some related info.
P.S. Next week’s issue is a special recap focusing on Donald Trump’s favorite book (besides the ones he “wrote”), the Bible.

***NINE INCH NAILS & JANE’S ADDICTION***
Nine Inch Nails (NIN or NIИ) is an alternative/industrial rock band that was founded by Trent Reznor and, as of 2016, now includes Atticus Ross. The band's first album, Pretty Hate Machine, was released in 1989 and contains the song “Head Like a Hole.” The band released an EP titled Broken in 1992. Some versions of it featured 99 songs, although #7-97 were just four seconds of silence each. Reznor co-founded Nothing Records and in 1993 signed the band Marilyn Manson (whose members were named by combining the first name of a female sex symbol and the last name of a male serial killer, e.g. Marilyn Monroe + Charles Manson).
NIN’s second full-length album, The Downward Spiral, was released in 1994 and contains the songs "Closer" and "Hurt," the latter of which was notably covered by Johnny Cash in 2002. The music videos for "Closer" (linked to below and NSFW) and Cash's cover of "Hurt" were both directed by Mark Romanek. Reznor sang background vocals on the 1994 Tori Amos song "Past the Mission." That song and the albums Broken and The Downward Spiral were recorded in the house where Sharon Tate was murdered. Reznor composed music for the 1996 video game Quake. The band’s album Year Zero, which was released in 2007 during the Dubya administration, included the songs "Survivalism" and "Capital G" (a reference to greed). It criticized the U.S. government and was accompanied by an alternate reality game.
NIN’s 2008 album was titled Ghosts I–IV and was called “a soundtrack for daydreams” by Reznor. "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X sampled a song on it. A side project of Reznor and Ross was the band How to Destroy Angels, which formed in 2009. That group also included Reznor's wife, the Filipino-American singer Mariqueen Maandig, and the stage visuals designer Rob Sheridan. Reznor and Ross have collaborated to score several movies directed by David Fincher, including The Social Network and Gone Girl. Reznor and Ross collaborated with Jon Batiste to score the Pixar movie Soul, which came out in 2020. Reznor and Ross produced Halsey's 2021 album If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power. Fans of Nine Inch Nails include Chile's president, Gabriel Boric.
DAILY DOUBLE #2
HATS ON
In the 1860s he designed an all-weather felt hat he called "The Boss of the Plains"
***JOHN B. STETSON***
The hat maker John Batterson Stetson was born in New Jersey in 1830. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis in the 1850s and headed out to the American West. After his health improved, he returned back east and founded the John B. Stetson Company in Philadelphia in 1865. He modified the sombrero to create the waterproof "Boss of the Plains," which is often called the first cowboy hat. He used his profits to donate money to a school in DeLand, Florida (where he wintered) that is now called Stetson University, whose athletic teams are nicknamed the Hatters. The folk song "Stagger Lee" was named for the real-life Black pimp "Stag" Lee Shelton, who shot a man who took his Stetson hat. South Sudan's president, Salva Kiir, now almost always wears a black Stetson hat after receiving one from Dubya in 2006.
DAILY DOUBLE #3
INSPIRED BY SHAKESPEARE
The 2023 romcom "Anyone But You", with squabbling would-be lovers named Bea & Ben, was inspired by this comedy
***MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING***
William Shakespeare's comedy Much Ado About Nothing is set in Messina, Italy. It centers on two duos: Claudio and Hero, along with Beatrice and Benedick (NOT Benedict, sorry Ben Chan). The gullible Claudio is tricked by the villainous Don John into thinking that Hero is sleeping with other men, which leads him to leave her at the altar. The bumbling constable Dogberry eventually figures out Don John's plot and the couple is reunited. The other duo, Beatrice (Hero’s cousin) and Benedick, both have names coming from Latin words for "blessed" (Beatrice is derived from Beatrix, meaning ”blessed one,” and Benedick comes from Benedictus, meaning “blessed”). They each fear being out-witted by the other and carry on a "merry war." They are eventually united thanks to the good-natured scheming of their friends.
The comedy’s many adaptations include a 1993 movie directed by Kenneth Branagh [BRAN-ah], who also played Benedick. The cast also includes Emma Thompson as Beatrice, Kate Beckinsale as Hero, Robert Sean Leonard as Claudio, Keanu Reeves as Don John, and Michael Keaton as Dogberry. Joss Whedon directed a 2012 adaptation that notably used traditional language. Hector Berlioz wrote the libretto to his own 1862 opera Béatrice et Bénédict (the spelling is correct), which was also based on the Shakespeare work.
